Parachute wants all Canadians to live long lives to the fullest – and that means being physically active to stay healthy, while preventing serious injury. These tips will help you remove hazards from winter sport and physical recreation activities by following safety standards and using the right equipment.
We need to move more to be healthy
- Only 39 per cent of 5- to 17-year olds are reaching recommended physical activity levels as outlined in the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Children and Youth.
- Half of Canadian adults aged 18-64 take at least 7,500 steps a day. Only 39 per cent of older adults aged 65 and above take 7,500 or more steps per day.
- Only 12 per cent of Canadian adults keep their sedentary time to 8 hours or less per day. Being sedentary for long periods of time (e.g. sitting while doing activities such as watching TV, working on a computer, travelling in or driving a car) can increase the risk of chronic illness, including depression.
