Did you know that transport incidents, such as motor vehicle collisions, are the second-leading cause of injury hospitalizations and third-leading cause of unintentional injury deaths in Canada. it’s time we change that.
Be the change on your streets!
Whether you walk, bike, skate, take public transit or drive, the roads you use every day play a huge role in keeping you safe – or putting you at risk. That’s why Parachute wants to hear from you about how our roads can be safer for everyone.
In the Snap for Change initiative, share your ideas for improving road safety in your community to receive a $100 gift card!
How to join:
1. Spot the issue
- Explore your neighbourhood and find a spot where road safety could use a boost. Think of places where pedestrians, cyclists, skaters, transit users or drivers face safety risks. It could be anything from an intersection with poor visibility to a street without sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, an area where the speed limit is higher than 30 km/h or a busy street with no separated bike lane.
- Snap some photos or take a video of the problem area
2. Tell us your fix
- Write a brief description of the problem and your solution to make it safer. Maybe it’s adding a separated bike lane, speed bump, safe pedestrian crossing or lowering the speed limit to 30 km/h.
3. Advocate for change
- Reach out to a local community influencer – your local police department, municipal councillor, media outlets or school administration. You can email them or send a letter outlining the issue and your suggestions.
4. Show us your snap
- Send us the photos or videos highlighting the issue and your proposed solution
- Include a copy of the letter or email that you send to the community influencer
