Wellington County has become the 28th Ontario municipality to be designated a “Safe Community.” Today, a community event was held at the Mount Forest Community Centre to celebrate this accomplishment.

“The goal of this designation is the provide a safe and healthier community to live, learn, work and play,” said Councillor Gary Williamson, Co-Chair of the Safe Communities Wellington County Committee. “It’s wonderful to receive this designation from Parachute, but now the real work begins. We all need to work together to keep Wellington County residents and visitors safe.”

The County received this designation by:

• Involving community partners in the designation process.
• Working together to increase the awareness of safety and injury prevention
in the community.
• Providing a forum for community, business and government leaders committed to community safety and health.
• Working towards enhancing existing programmes and resources through networks and partnerships at the grass roots level to achieve sustainable results.
