TORONTO, April 18, 2016Parachute, the national charity dedicated to preventing injuries and saving lives, would like to take the opportunity to thank State Farm for its generous support. As a leading insurer in Canada, State Farm partners with Parachute to engage communities in becoming safer and more aware of the risks that face them.

Young driver safety is a huge issue in Canada – while young people only make up 13% of licensed drivers, they account for approximately one quarter of all road-related injuries and fatalities. Most of these injuries and deaths can be prevented.

“Our vision is to reduce distracted driving incidents to zero,” says Louise Logan, Parachute’s President and CEO. “Support from State Farm allows Parachute to provide critical awareness and education programs to keep teens safe behind the wheel.”

State Farm partners with Parachute to support a National Teen Driver Safety Week in Canada. National Teen Driver Safety Week, occurring annually each October, aims to address the number one cause of death amongst teens in Canada.

“State Farm has a long history of promoting teen driver safety,” said Barbara Bellissimo, Senior Vice President, State Farm. “We are happy to work with Parachute in establishing a National Teen Driver Safety Week in Canada and raising awareness about the serious issues facing teen drivers.”

Parachute, in collaboration with State Farm has created an interactive program with many components, including Project Gearshift, Teen Ambassadors, Parachute Engagement and Community Sessions that all lead up to National Teen Driver Safety Week.
