Are you someone looking to make a difference in the lives of your family, friends and community? Are you a person early in your career looking for an opportunity to work with an organization that addresses a leading public health issue?

Did you know that if you’re between the ages of 1 and 44, you are more likely to die from injury than any other cause. Leading causes include falls, poisoning and vehicle collisions. Preventable injuries cost the Canadian economy $29.4 billion annually.

Parachute is Canada’s national charity dedicated to injury prevention that was formed in July 2012. We envision a Canada free of serious injuries, with people in Canada living long lives to the fullest. Our mission: to create a safer Canada by preventing serious and fatal injuries through evidence-based solutions that advocate and educate.

Consider joining our Board. Do you have governance skills, nonprofit finance experience or leadership experience?  We are looking for Directors to serve a three-year term on Parachute’s governance Board and we are specifically looking for people with accounting/finance (top priority) and marketing/branding. Other areas of expertise include risk management, fund development, and public policy.

Candidates should demonstrate the following attributes:

  • integrity and high ethical standards;
  • intellectual capacity for conceptual and strategic thinking;
  • ability to cut through complex issues and ask incisive questions;
  • independent judgement;
  • candour and the willingness to table difficult issues;
  • willingness to act on and be accountable for decisions;
  • the interpersonal skills to work collegially and express views in a way that is both challenging and supportive; and
  • commitment to prepare for and attend meetings.

Volunteering with Parachute provides a fulfilling opportunity to support an organization making a difference that is committed to building a team reflective of the diversity of those we serve. We encourage applications from equity-deserving groups. Parachute also encourages those early to midway in their careers to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who will enhance the diversity, depth and competencies of our board.

All applicants nationwide will be considered: however, those located in Eastern Canada (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island) and Northern Canada (Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon) are strongly encouraged to apply.

If you fit the profile outlined above and would benefit personally and professionally by contributing experience and expertise to help meet Parachute’s mandate, please forward an introductory letter and resumé outlining your skills and experience to hglower@parachute.ca no later than 3 p.m. ET on February 22, 2024.
