New research published in the Canadian Journal of Sports Medicine shows the vital need for continued injury prevention, education and awareness to reduce spinal cord injuries in ice hockey.

Forty-four new cases from 2006-2011 have been added to the Canadian Ice Hockey Spinal Injuries Registry. The Registry now contains 355 ice hockey-related spinal cord injuries from 1943-2011, making it Canada’s leading database on spinal cord injuries in hockey. Leading neurosurgeon and Parachute Board member, Dr. Charles Tator and researchers, credit the continuing decrease in number of severe injuries to a combination of educational programs, rule changes and enforcement.

Charles H. Tator, MD, PhD, Board of Directors, Parachute is available to discuss the Registry and newest findings.
