Dr. Janet van Vlymen is an academic anesthesiologist and healthcare leader with more than 30 years of experience in patient safety, quality improvement, and healthcare governance. She served as Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Queen’s University and as Program Medical Director of Perioperative Services at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, where she oversaw quality of care, patient safety initiatives, strategic planning, and professional practice within the surgical program.

Dr. van Vlymen served for nine years on the Board of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, including as President in 2022. She has also served as Chair of the Quality Assurance Committee, a member of the Ontario Health Professions Discipline Tribunal, and an Accreditation Canada assessor.

A recognized advocate for safer healthcare systems, Dr. van Vlymen has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications focused on patient safety and perioperative care. She brings extensive experience in governance, risk oversight, quality improvement, and system leadership to the Parachute Board.
