TORONTO, March 14, 2013 /CNW/ – Parachute invites media to attend the 2013 Dr. Charles Tator Lectureship, March 18, in Toronto in which Montreal Canadiens goalie legend and former MP, Ken Dryden, will present the keynote speech, « Concussions: The Next Step – From Problems to Answers ».

The day also marks the official unveiling of a number of new concussion resources developed with funding provided through a contribution agreement with the Public Health Agency of Canada. These resources will be of interest to everyone who needs to know about this important issue – whether coaches, parents, teachers or health professionals. The resources were created by ThinkFirst Canada, now a part of Parachute (including its new concussion toolkit), Hockey Canada, (smartphone apps) the Coaching Association of Canada (including new concussion resources added to coaching curricula) and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (resources targeting teams and sport organizations including an ethical decision-making game). Representatives of each of the four partners will be on hand to demonstrate their resources and answer questions.

Another highlight will include an appearance by a young woman who suffered a sport-related concussion and who will talk about her recovery and what she’s learned. Finally, copies will be shared of the new Pocket Concussion Recognition Tool, which was developed in connection with the newly released consensus statement on concussion in sports.
